Magical moments recalled

He has achieved everything. Jan-Ove Waldner, Olympic Champion and World Champion, world-wide known as the player with the best feeling at all and, even more as the best table tennis player of all times, has won everything what there is to win. Until 2011/2012 he proved his class in the German Bundesleague where he finally played for the club TTC Fulda Maberzell, since the season 2012/2013 he lets his professional career end in his home town, in Stockholm where he’s still playing in the fist league – the Swedish one of course, which means less stress and travelling. He could also completely retire and spend his time playing golf, but Waldner still loves table tennis; he still has a lot of fun with this fascinating game.
A comeback on the world stage of the table tennis sports wasn’t a question where he even thought about, although a lot of fans would have wished that. As during his long career Waldner had proved several times that he’s always able to come back to the stage due to his unique skills. Thus in 1997 at his second triumph in the singles of the World Championships – eight years after he had first won ...

the crown 1989 in Dortmund – but also at the Olympic Games 2004 where he reached the semi-final with winnings over Ma Lin and Timo Boll. But coming back to the world stage in his mid forties, like his long-time companion Jörgen Persson, wasn’t something he want. “I don’t need that anymore. I don’t need to prove anything. In order to keep up with the best players internationally, I would have to practice much more.”
However, what he still enjoys are those magic moments which also the spectators like. The masterstrokes where everything has to be perfect for, where Waldner’s unique feeling is required as well as an equipment which has been precisely adjusted to him. “Today table tennis is faster than ever”, says Waldner. A player who has got such a brilliant feeling exactly notices any slight modification, of course also one of his own bat. And he only wants the best equipment with which he can create more magic moments. That’s Jan-Ove Waldner – and DONIC.
